Belgium’s polished diamond exports drop 19.7% in July

In July 2012, Belgium’s polished diamond exports decreased in both value and volume. The value of polished diamond exports fell 19.7 percent compared to a year ago to USD1,251,902,534. The average per carat price of polished diamond exports USD 1,783, an increase from USD 1,711 U.S. in July 2011. Volume of polished diamond exports dropped 22.93 percent to 702,220.48 carats compared to 911,113.43 carats in July 2011.

Import of polished diamonds in July 2012, fell 22.99 percent in volume terms and by 19.99 percent in value compared to the same month last year.

Exports of rough diamonds in July 2012, decreased in volume terms by 26.38 percent (on y-o-y basis) to 9,720,389.16 carats and in value terms it fell by 33.88 percent (on y-o-y basis) USD 230,126,592.

Import of rough diamonds decreased by 44.57 percent .from USD 1,416,205,416 in July 2011 to USD 785,032,247 in July 2012. In volume terms, there was a drop of 30.36 percent (on y-o-y basis).
