Sales touch 18 million carats during the six months
Alrosa’s H1 production up 13%

Mining giant Alrosa announced its sales and production performance for the second quarter of 2015 and the first half of the year. During the said six months diamond production stood at 18.0 million carats, up 13 percent on y-o-y basis, reports say. The company attributed this to the performance at its projects. At the Karpinskogo-1 pipe of Lomonosov deposit (Severalmaz) diamond output rose to 600 thousand carats after the production launch in October 2014. There was processing of extra stockpiles of higher grade ore from the open pit at Udachnaya pipe. Mir underground mine’s diamond output increased almost twofold through measures to reduce water inflow. At the Botuobinskaya pipe, the first 481 thousand carats were produced after the launch in March 2015.

The company noted in its provisional sales result that it sold 18 million carats of diamonds during H1 2015. Also, revenue from rough diamond sales is set to reach at least USD 2.1 billion. During the second quarter, the company sold 9.0 million carats of diamonds including 5.6 million carats of gem-quality diamonds at an average price of USD 176 per carat and 3.4 million carats of industrial diamonds at an average price of USD 11 per carat. Also, in these three months, its rough diamond prices declined by 3 percent, overall prices were reduced by 6 percent since the beginning of 2015 affected by a slowdown in the diamond market.
