Alrosa to build electric projects in Namibia

Alrosa to build electric projects in Namibia

Alrosa is including within its scope of activities a new foray of building two electric power plants in Namibia, according to AFNS. The project will be implemented through the offices of St. Petersburg Project Constitution company. Namibia currently depends on South Africa for part of its power supply, and the recent power shortages in South Africa have affected the mining industries of both countries. Alrlosa’s new venture is to remedy the situation with its power projects.

The Alrosa President Sergei Vybornov and Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba met with Namibian Prime Minister Nahas Angula and Foreign Minister Marco Hausiku to discuss Alrosa’s plans including prospecting for diamonds in Namibia.

Alrosa has stakes in two diamond mining projects in Angola—32.8 percent of Catoca and 45 percent of LUO-Kamachia-Kamajiku.
