ASJRA Holds Annual Jewellery History Event

The Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts (ASJRA) has announced it will hold its 13th annual event—“Gold, Silver, and Fashion in New York City” on May 18-19, 2018.

The event includes: on Friday, May 18 a tour of the exhibition Golden Kingdoms: Luxury and Legacy in the Ancient Americas at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with one of the curators of the exhibition Joanne Pillsbury, the Andrall E. Pearson Curator, Arts of the Ancient Americas, a tour of “Fashion and the Met”, a viewing of the new exhibition “Heavenly Bodies, Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, a 3-course lunch in the museum’s Petrie Court Restaurant overlooking Central Park, and finally an afternoon high tea in the same restaurant.

On Saturday, May 19 the day will begin with a Curator’s tour with curator Jeannine Falino of “New York Silver, Then and Now”, at the Museum of the City of New York, a 3-course lunch at an upper East Side restaurant followed by three lectures by award-winning jeweller Alexandra Mor speaking on her work and inspiration, Beth Weingast (a well-known appraiser with a specialty in Judaica and ancient coins) on Yemenite Jewelry, and Amy McHugh, assistant curator at Tiffany & Co. Archives on “Tiffany & Co. and the French Crown Jewels”. The day will end with a reception where the one-of-a-kind necklaces of Barbara Natoli Witt will be on view.
