9th WDC Annual Meeting to be hosted by Israel Diamond Institute

The 9th Annual Meeting of the World Diamond Council, to be hosted by the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies at the Dan Panorama Convention Center in Tel Aviv, is expected to see a participation of government ministers from a variety of diamond producing and consuming countries, senior representatives of international organizations, and leaders of the world diamond and jewelry industries. The Meeting is slated between May 5 and 6. The Plenary Session will take place on Monday, May 6, with the welcoming address being delivered by Naftali Bennett, Israel's Minister of Economy and Trade.

Speakers at the meeting include Susan Shabangu, Minister of Mineral Resources of South Africa; Dr. Obert Moses Mpofu, Minister of Mines and Mining Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe; Francisco Queirós, Minister of Geology and Mines of the Republic of Angola; Jose W. Fernandez, U.S .Assistant Secretary of State; Dr. Andrei Abramov, Chief of NGO Division, Economic and Social Council of the United Nations ;Ambassador Welile Nhlapo, Chair of Kimberley Process; Tung Lai Margue, Director, Head of Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of European Union.

The WDC Annual Meeting is the official forum for the General Assembly of the WDC, which coordinates the effort of the international diamond and jewelry sectors to eliminate trade in conflict diamonds.

"Their presence underscores not only the importance of the event, but also the appreciation of the role played by the industry in ridding the world of conflict diamonds." Moti Ganz, IDI Chairman said, "This is the third time that we have hosted such a gathering, and once again we feel compelled to provide whatever support we can to WDC's critical mission."
