The 12th edition of the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS), most commonly known as ‘December Show’ saw good turnout in terms of visitors as well as retailers. The show is undoubtedly the most noteworthy event in the calendar of gem and jewellery industry in the world. The show was held during 20-23 December 2014.

JJS was inaugurated on December 20, 2014 at the exhibition centre of Sitapura Industrial Estate of Jaipur. The chief guests for the functions were: Kurt Zbinden, VP-Operations Asia Pacific and Siddharth Singh, Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals, Government of India. The guest of honour was Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC.

This year the show was held at the new venue with improved infrastructure, which made it convenient for retailers as well as buyers. The new venue spread over 1 lakh sq ft had 550 booths, which is a 20 per cent increase since last year.

Welcoming all to the show, Vimalchand Surana, Convener, JJS said, "I welcome you all and congratulate you on the inauguration of the 12th Jaipur Jewellery Show. It has been our constant endeavour to take this show on the next level. The new venue of the show has made this possible. This venue at Sitapura facilitates more space, more booths and enhanced security. I request you all to please forgive us if they are any shortcomings due to the place being new. Please let us know your suggestions to make it better. All our best wishes are always with this show."

On the third day, Indian Jeweller spoke to him regarding the reactions, he stated, "We have received very good reactions and everyone has stated that the layout of the show is much better than last year. Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC said that the layout is better than IIJS. This year there are 550 booths, which is a 20 per cent increase since last year. The show is sprawled across an area of 100,000 sq ft. Next year we are hoping to get the adjoining hall for machinery booths. We will also concentrate on marketing the show to international buyers. Till now we were concentrating on India's retailers but from next year we will focus on international retailers. We are hosting 200 national retailers this year. We also have provided shuttles from SMS investment grounds and Ram Nivas Gardens to facilitate easy conveyance. Overall, everyone is very happy with the show."

In terms of business, the show was bit slow due to the overall slow market sentiments. Also, the buyers from Delhi, Agra and Punjab were missing. However, many told us that though the show was slow, there were quality consumers from across India walking in.

Navratana Saboo, Director, Nav Ratana Exports opined, "The new venue is very good and the facilities are very well managed. But, the show is slow. Overall, the market is slow. Buyers from Delhi, Agra, Punjab are missing. It is mostly people from Jaipur that are visiting the show. The organisers need to concentrate on marketing the show more in Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, etc. There is no buying happening right now. People are cautions. Overall, the show is well managed but slow in terms of business."

Siddharth Mehta, CEO-Jaipur showroom stated, "The show is very good and there are good numbers of walk-ins. The buyers are purchasing fancy shapes and lightweight jewellery. It is a very good B2B and B2C show but we are concentrating more on B2C. Buyers from Rajasthani towns are here but buyers from Delhi and Agra are not seen yet. There are no complains but parking is a problem. Overall, it's a very good show for Entice."

Gautam Totuka, Director, P. C. Totuka & Sons expressed, "The show is very good and has good momentum. There are good numbers of quality buyers from all over India, especially North. The venue is very good and has a positive vibe to it. The buyers are preferring designs in lesser range. Anything below Rs 10 lakhs is moving well." As a suggestion, he shared, "It's not easy to locate the booths and other facilities as there are no directions that are easily visible. The organisers should have directions hanging from the ceiling so that they are easily visible."
