The Guangzhou Diamond Exchange (GZDE) held its first rough diamond sales on April 21, which was also the first rough diamond exhibition and open sales in mainland China. The sales met with groundbreaking success.

Taking advantages from the special function granted by AQSIQ (the ministry in charge of Kimberley Process Certification Scheme in China) and those from the Customs and other relative authorities, GZDE organized the elaborately selected parcels of rough diamonds from famous international suppliers. In the period of the two and a half days’ viewing, hundreds of footfalls of the dealers have been recorded.

In this sales, GZDE disclosed three selling modes for the rough diamonds including allocation, negotiation and online-auction. The parcels with high market interests were listed for online auction and gained strong demands, realizing China’s first rough diamonds auction sales.

By virtue of GZDE’s rough diamonds trading services, Chinese rough diamond dealers not only get convenient access to the international primary rough diamond supplies at the most preferential price, but also undertake transparent trading, thereby bringing new and innovative trade channels for the Chinese diamond industry which stands the second in the world. The strong demand of the domestic diamond jewellery market and the global suppliers are now well connected, traders said.

GZDE hosted a business conference themed as “Innovative Supply, Vigorous Upgrade”coinciding with its open sales. The event focused on innovative service for diamonds in supply channels, processing technology and integrated market-service system. Around 400 guests got acquainted with the new perspective of industry development delivered by the senior representatives from the Diamond Processing Specialized Committee of Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China, GZDE, Guangdong Gems and Jade Exchange, Delta TAU, Sarine Technologies Ltd., China Gold Newspaper and some other organizations from the industry.
